Report for SOS Phone Line for Children and Youth 0800 1 2222 (free of charge line) First Children’s Embassy in the World MEGJASHI January-December 2009

The SOS phone line for children and youth 0800 1 2222 by the First Children’s Embassy in the World Megjashi made 16 years of its existence in 2009. During those 16 years, 17 784 reports were registered on different types of problems that the children are facing daily.
SOS - telephone of the hope

First World Children’s Embassy MEGJASHI is part of the international network Child Helpline International – which unites SOS services for help of children from the countries world wide. The international day of the SOS lines took part for its celebration on the 17 of May.

On the occasion of 17 of May - International day of SOS lines for help and support of the children in the world, First World Children’s Embassy MEGJASHI informed the public about the situation of our free SOS telephone for children and young 0800 12222 as well as recalled the importance of the lines for help and support.

SOS Helpline for children and youth 0800 1 22 22
The SOS helpline for children and youth of the First Children’s Embassy in the World- Megjashi is the first toll-free line for children and youth in the country, which continuously operates more than 14 years (since 1993).

PERSONAL IMPRESSIONS REGARDING THE WORK OF THE SOS LINE
I learnt about working with children from children, including myself at that stage of my personal development. Children can be the best teachers, they know how to grow how to evolve how to learn, feel, discover, laugh and cry, seethe with anger. They know what’s good for them, what they need … They are full of energy and strength blesses with the capacity to love. What they need is space … if that space is not available they keep things inside, get blocked and paralyzed … in this case it’s hard for them to grow and feel confident.

Short history : Right after the First Children's Embassy in the World was founded in April 1992, the Collegium made a decision to start the preparation for project - the SOS telephone line for children and youngsters. The reasons were simple: children on their own used to call rarely in the Embassy looking for support in solving different problems, but in Macedonia did not exist any S.O.S telephone , although the needs for this kind of service were more than obvious.

In the last six months of the SOS telephone for children and youth, there were realized 576 conversations from which 224 were personal (conversations for some problems) and 7 conversations in direct contact.
